Three Epic Meteor Showers Will Light Up July — Your Guide from Astronomy Tours

Summer nights are made for stargazing—and this July, the sky is serving up something special. Three meteor showers will grace our nights, overlapping in time to create a celestial treat. While not all of them are equally intense, each brings its own kind of magic.

Here’s your no-nonsense, star-filled guide to catching them from Finca Astronómica, our off-grid stargazing paradise in the Region of Murcia.

✨ 1. Alpha Capricornids

📅 Active: July 7 – August 15

🌟 Peak: July 29–30

💥 Rate: Up to 5 meteors per hour

Don’t let the low numbers fool you—this shower is famous for producing bright, slow-moving fireballs that steal the show. Even in low quantities, these meteors can be incredibly eye-catching.

🌌 Perfect for relaxed skywatchers hoping for one or two dazzling streaks of light.

💫 2. Southern Delta Aquariids

📅 Active: July 18 – August 12

🌟 Peak: July 29–30

🌠 Rate: 15–25 meteors per hour

This one is more active, but the meteors tend to be faint—meaning a dark sky is essential. Luckily, our off-grid location offers perfect conditions. With patience, you’ll spot elegant flashes slicing through the sky.

🔭 Great for binocular users and those who like a quieter, more meditative experience.

🌟 3. The Perseids (The Superstar of Summer)

📅 Active: July 14 – September 1

🌟 Peak: August 12–13

💥 Rate: Up to 100 meteors per hour in dark skies

The most popular meteor shower of the year. Fast, bright, and frequent—what’s not to love? This year, though, we’ll have a bright Moon around the peak, which could outshine the fainter meteors. Still, the brightest ones will absolutely be visible.

🎉 If you’re only going to stay up late once this summer—make it for this.

🌍 Why Meteor Showers Matter

Meteor showers remind us that Earth is constantly moving through ancient debris trails left by comets. These tiny fragments—some the size of a grain of sand—burn up in our atmosphere and create stunning streaks of light. For a brief moment, we get to witness cosmic history play out above our heads.
